Hi Sarah,

It was really nice to see Caitlin at school today. As far as I can tell/observe, she had a pretty good day. She spoke to me privately early in the day, letting me know how tired she is and how that affects her mood and emotions etc. She seemed really aware of herself and was really open to talk about it. I was very impressed.

She went to Chess club at lunchtime which was a new thing for her and might be great for her for making friends. Her friends from class, Isaac and Emerald both went too. 

I've told Caitlin not to worry about what work she's missed in class and to just start fresh. She has a novel that her reading group have begun reading, Caitlin has about 5 short chapters until she's caught up with the rest of the group.

I really hope to see Caitlin tomorrow so fingers crossed she's feeling up to it in the morning.

Hi Ashleigh,

I have just seen you email, which was lovely thank you. She was quite bouncy when got home which is a good sign. She told me about chess club as she use to be in one in Wgtn and Parkvale (let’s hope she sticks with it) Hopping  today goes just as well.
Also thoughts with you all with the sad Passing of Jim.

Kia ora parents and caregivers, 

I can't believe the end of Term 3 is already here, it has come around so quickly!
Here are the reminders for the week ahead: Monday 21st - Friday 25th September. 


HOMEWORK
  • Reading
            * 20 mins minimum each night 
  • Maths: Probability
             * Probability Maths sheet due Friday 25th
             * Monster Maths Flashcards - Basic Facts learning/revision
             * Extension Maths students have their own Maths homework


REMINDERS:
  • P.E Monday & Tuesday
  • Technology Monday & Tuesday
  • Room 13's 'Funky Monkey' cafe on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evening. Call the school to book a table - going fast.
  • Final Elective on Thursday
  • Year 7 Social on Thursday, 6 - 8pm. Formal dress, Students to bring $4 (to go towards soft drinks) and their permission slip on the night. Please collect your child from the hall at 8pm.
  • Year 7 Sports rotation Friday morning - Will need P.E gear and drink bottle
  • School Assembly on Friday 1.30pm - HNI SPEECH COMPETITION - Good luck to Holly!
  • Maths books are filling up quickly so replacements in time for next term would be appreciated.
  • Reminder that students are to wear their summer uniform in Term 4.

Te Reo/Tikanga Maori - Mihimihi

Students learned their mihimihi in Term 1 to help develop and practise their use of Te Reo and understanding of Tikanga Maori.

Maths through Art

Statistics Planning & post-lesson reflection



Achievement Objectives:
Statistical investigation:
• Plan and conduct investigations using the statistical enquiry cycle: – determining appropriate variables and data collection methods; – gathering, sorting, and displaying multivariate category, measurement, and time-series data to detect patterns, variations, relationships, and trends;
– comparing distributions visually; – communicating findings, using appropriate displays.
Statistical literacy:
• Evaluate statements made by others about the findings of statistical investigations and probability activities.
Probability:
• Investigate situations that involve elements of chance by comparing experimental distributions with expectations from models of the possible outcomes, acknowledging variation and independence. • Use simple fractions and percentages to describe probabilities.
Week two: Looking at different types of data (quantitative and qualitative), multivariate, time series & measurement data - Discrete vs Continuous data. How to display these. Looking into what good questions are.

Reflection:
We covered numerical data: discrete and continuous and categorical data. Didn’t get on to ordinal data or that categorical data can be numerical
Instead of this lesson we did a follow up activity about data types and graph types. Did lesson on drawing a pie graph by hand, using percentages & protractor etc.
Need to continue this - David, Luis, Sean

Used Google sheets for graphing but can only make basic pie, bar, line graphs etc. Need to find site for making histograms etc
are they using the right type of graph for the task? Data & Answering the question
